Hey there!

I have been teaching English Language Development for English Learner students for the past 3 years. Our entire class is meant to prepare students to pass the big ELPAC test each spring (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California). This test takes several weeks to complete as it involves 4 parts with a one-on-one Speaking Section that requires one teacher to test each student 1 at a time. In previous years I have used my own funds to provide my students with healthy snacks (organic fruit chews, bananas, mandarins, and granola bars) and raffle prizes for attendance and staying engaged in their test.

If you know me then you know that I love teaching and taking care of my students. Part of that care is helping my students beyond just the lesson plan. I am asking for some extra help in taking care of my students this year. It took a lot of pride-swallowing to admit that this year, I need some help as my financials aren’t allowing me to provide for my students as much as they deserve.

I am asking for some help to supply my students with healthy snacks to prepare their brains for the test and supply the energy they need, and help with purchasing 6 $10 Amazon gift cards for their effort prizes.

The students that I serve are some of the most deserving on our campus. 95% of them qualify for free lunch, and all of them are striving to work knowing their bilingual skills and are motivated to succeed in their careers. If they are able to pass their ELPAC test then they get a Reclassified Certificate showing their status as an “English Learner” has changed, as well as the status of academically bi-literate, which goes far on a resume or application. Helping them helps our school, their futures and the community at large as many of these students become translators in various capacities (I have former students who have translated for law offices, colleges, real estate agencies, as well as translating for their own family and friends on thing such as bank forms and taxes.)
