Help Supply 1st Year Elementary Teachers in Michigan

Donation protected
Starting in 2010, I began providing teacher supplies to a different First Year Elementary Teacher. The selection process is random. First, I select a random county in Michigan, and from there, I contact every elementary school principal in that county to ask if they would like to nominate a First Year Elementary Teacher who could benefit from some additional school supplies. All nominations I receive are put into a hat, and a name is drawn at random. There are 83 counties in Michigan, and no county will be selected more than once.

Once a teacher has been selected, the principal provides the teacher my contact information. I tell each teacher that they can ask for 50 things and the quantities they need for each item: five big-ticket items and 45 realistic items. Each year, I get closer to my goal of being able to purchase all 50.

I work multiple second jobs, and the money I make from those is what I use to buy the supplies.

After the items have been purchased, I coordinate delivery arrangements with the principal and teacher and personally deliver everything to the classroom.

Each teacher's needs are different, and the items on the Wish List vary from year to year. (Requests have ranged from new computers for the classroom, iPads for every student, furniture to create a reading nook, and an eyeglass repair kit.)

Any financial support I receive will be put directly towards the teachers' needs and supplies.
