Help Sunny, Gia & Sarah Recover After Dog Attack

Donation protected
On Easter Sunday, I was looking at a new landscape job when the owners' pit bull attacked my 18 lb Chihuahua, Sunny. The attack was brutal, with blood everywhere as the pit bull had Sunny by the neck, violently shaking him. A huge black Newfoundland dog grabbed Sunny from behind. Despite being disabled, I fought to protect my baby, kicking the black dog and jumping on the pit bull. I bit the pit bull in the throat while yelling for it to let go. Miraculously, the pit bull released Sunny, and I grabbed him, running to my truck as his neck wound spurted blood, drenching me. The black dog tried to get Sunny again as I fumbled for my keys, but I managed to toss Sunny in the back seat. My other Chihuahua, Gia, was hiding under the truck, and I crawled under to pull her out and get her to safety.

I raced to the Gainesville Pet ER, pulling a U-Haul full of work tools. The ER staff took Sunny in immediately and watched Gia so I could get emergency care for my own wounds. I had puncture wounds and a torn lip, received shots, and returned to the vet ER. Sunny was there for 12 hours, and since I was from out of town and broke, I was referred to the animal shelter vet for follow-up. I spent the next two days taking Sunny back for wound care, then was told to see my local vet. Sunny underwent surgery for severe neck wounds, and the vet fears his larynx may be severed. During surgery, the vet discovered that part of Sunny's backbone had been crushed and removed the fragments while searching his wounds. His neck was sewn up with draining tubes all around his neck and belly. I haven't been able to see my doctor yet and can barely walk.

Sunny, Gia, and I live in an 18' camper, working landscape jobs for free lot rent. Now, we are homeless and staying on the floor at a friend's home. Sunny's vet bills are overwhelming, with more care needed. I spent every penny I had this past week, including motel and meds, and my medical expenses haven't even started. Sunny is due back at the vet soon to hopefully remove drainage tubes, and I need to get checked for injuries to my back and shoulder. We are in constant prayer mode, hoping to survive this ordeal. My little Chihuahua is terrified, hiding under a dresser after witnessing the attack. I send heartfelt love and prayers to anyone who can help us get through this.
