Help Sunny Access Essential Care & Safe Housing

Hi everyone,

My name is Phoebe Campbell, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my dear friend, Sunny Day. Sunny has been through so much with both housing and healthcare, and I’m hoping we can rally together to support them during this incredibly tough time.

Sunny lives with a physical disability that brings constant pain and instability into their life. Since late 2023, their symptoms have intensified, making it harder for them to manage daily life and the things they love.

Right now, Sunny urgently needs support on two fronts:

1. Safe housing – Sunny has had to suddenly move for safety reasons and will be shifting into a new rental on September 16th. While they were able to secure a rental subsidy grant, they’ve already had to pay $2,800 for bond and $1,400 in rent upfront, leaving them financially stretched.

2. Essential healthcare – Sunny’s situation with the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) has been incredibly difficult. Delays and sudden changes left them without funding for 10 days earlier this year, meaning they couldn’t access vital support workers or health services. This led to a serious decline in their health, forcing them back onto hospital-grade formula for nutrition and paying $480 out-of-pocket for physiotherapy.

Things worsened in June when Sunny was being driven home from a medical appointment by a support worker. The driver failed to check properly, pulled out, and collided with a moving bus—right on the passenger side where Sunny was sitting. Understandably, they went into shock, and in the days following, their ongoing neck, spine, and hip pain flared badly, along with new thoracic pain. Physiotherapy is essential for their condition—something they’ve relied on weekly for the past 3 years—but due to recent NDIS changes, they’ve been restricted to just 4 hours of physiotherapy a year. This is devastating and dangerous for their health, and while Sunny is challenging the decision, they urgently need funds to keep accessing treatment in the meantime.

On top of this, Sunny has already had to cover big expenses this year, including $400 for a wheelchair, all while surviving on the Disability Support Pension. Their small savings (from a past compensation payment as a victim of violence) are nearly gone.

Before the sudden move, NDIS setbacks, and car accident, Sunny’s health was slowly improving. They had hope. These last few months have set them back in heartbreaking ways—but with the right support, they can stabilise and move forward again.

All funds raised will go directly towards:

  • Physiotherapy and essential healthcare not currently covered by NDIS

  • Moving costs to help Sunny settle into safe housing

Sunny is one of the most resilient and caring people I know. They deserve stability, dignity, and relief from constant financial and physical struggle. Any contribution—whether through a donation or by sharing this page—would mean the world to Sunny and to me.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read their story and for any support you can offer.

With gratitude,
Phoebe
