My name is Monica Martin and I am starting this fundraiser for my dear friend, Summer Duthie. Summer and her husband are some of the most selfless people I know. They helped me raise my two daughters as a single mom and are and will always be part of my family. They have been loyal friends, caregivers, and parents. Summer adopted her sister's children when they did not have any place to go. Summer and her husband have raised these children into adulthood and gave them a chance at their future, a home, and love and encouragement. Summer and her husband are the type of people to drop what they are doing to help. I am honored to have them in my life and part of my family. Summer and her husband are always helping others without hesitation. They have a beautiful daughter and are raising her.

I have recently learned Summer has to amputate her leg. I am sad and shocked. She is younger than me, and she has had a series of surgeries after a bad fall. The leg was rebuilt but just keeps getting infected. She has tried everything possible for the last few years, and the doctors cannot get rid of the infection. She has been so patient and brave. She has not complained about being dealt these cards in life but just takes it day by day. Tomorrow she will have her leg amputated, and I am super sad it has come to this. But if it will make her better, she must do it. All she has asked for are prayers. I think prayers are great and keep sending them; however, this will be costly, not to mention a long recovery and learning how to walk again. Her husband works up in Alaska and has to be away from them to make ends meet. I know this has not been easy for them and to have this happen.

I am asking for my friends and family to share and to consider donating to them for their medical and living expenses to get them through this tough time. They would never ask for anyone to do this, and that is why I am doing it. Let's all pitch in and help this family out. They could use some good fortune. We can keep you updated on Summer's progress.
