Help sumaq Support Her Mom’s Journey
Donation protected
Hi friends,
I’m Sumaq, and I’m reaching out for your support to help me continue to care for my incredible mom, a woman whose life is a testament to strength and resilience. My mom has late-stage Parkinson’s Disease (LSPD), and being her caregiver has been the most challenging but meaningful experience of my life.
A Story of Resilience
My mom has always been a fighter. She’s faced enormous hurdles throughout her life, including surviving cancer—twice. Against all odds, she beat it both times, becoming an inspiration to everyone around her. But just as we celebrated her recovery, my dad, her lifelong partner and primary caregiver, passed away during the pandemic. His loss left a void in our family that words cannot describe.
Since then, my sisters and I have worked tirelessly to fill his role as her full-time caregivers. It hasn’t been easy—her health has severely declined, and she now requires around-the-clock care. Despite this, my mom continues to face each day with unmatched strength and determination, even as her body fights against her spirit.
Why I’m Asking for Help
Caring for my mom is a labor of love, but it’s also exhausting, both emotionally and financially. Her medical needs are extensive, requiring everything from medications and holistic therapies to mobility equipment and home adjustments. On top of this, her condition has progressed to the point where she is now wheelchair-bound.
We are working to secure a custom power wheelchair that will allow her to regain some independence and dignity. However, insurance has denied to cover the cost (twice!), which means that it now falls entirely on me. Beyond the wheelchair itself, we also need a wheelchair-accessible van and home modifications to accommodate her needs. The financial strain has become overwhelming, and it’s why I’m turning to you for help.
How Your Donations Will Be Used
Your generosity will go directly toward these essential needs for my mom's care:
- A custom all-power wheelchair to provide her with mobility and independence.
- Home modifications to make our space wheelchair accessible and safe.
Why This Matters
Your support is about far more than just alleviating financial burdens—it’s about improving my mom’s quality of life. It’s about giving her the dignity she deserves while allowing me, as her caregiver, to find balance and well-being in this role.
Caregiving can be an isolating and lonely path, but I am determined to give my mom everything she needs to live with comfort and love every day. With your help, I can make that happen.
With gratitude,
Sumaq
