Help Sulma Baquero Battle Ovarian Cancer
Donation protected
She is Sulma Baquero—my mom.
She’s currently facing serious health challenges: she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer a month ago, and she’s also battling an aggressive condition affecting her liver. However, the ovarian cancer requires urgent intervention.
But first, let me introduce myself:
I’m Alex, originally from Venezuela but currently based in Colombia. I work as an online Spanish tutor, and that’s how I make my living. My salary isn’t a fortune, but combined with my sister’s income, it has allowed us to manage this situation so far.
I’m staying at my sister’s house—she works as well. We don’t have children, so our primary responsibility is taking care of our mom. Thankfully, as I mentioned, our combined earnings have covered expensive medicines and treatments without relying on public insurance. Unfortunately, public healthcare in most Latin American countries tends to be inefficient, often requiring long waits for appointments or access to prescribed medications.
When it comes to cancer, time is of the essence—every minute, every second counts. Even though our income has met our needs so far, we’re worried it won’t be enough to cover the surgery and the subsequent procedures that need to happen as soon as possible.
I’ve tried to determine the cost of this procedure in Colombia, but I haven’t received any clear answers yet. After doing my own research about Ecuador (where I used to live), I found that the surgery alone might cost between 1,500 and 2,000 USD, and with chemotherapy and other essential treatments, the total could rise to around 5,000 USD.
Any contribution would mean a great deal to us. No matter how much you’re able to give, we will all be eternally grateful.
