A stray puppy wandered into a dance studio where I was working, looking lost and in need of help. She was covered in grease, malnourished, and clearly hadn’t had an easy start to life. My friend and I immediately took her to the vet to check for a microchip, hoping to reunite her with her family. Unfortunately, she wasn’t chipped. We posted her online to try and find her owner, but the only person who reached out couldn’t provide proof of ownership, and their story didn’t add up. It became clear that she needed someone to look out for her, so we decided to get her vaccinated and give her a safe place to stay—and we named her Suki.

Despite our best efforts, Suki’s health has been a rollercoaster. Her stool was irregular—sometimes firm, sometimes diarrhea—and this morning things took a turn for the worse. She had bloody stool, refused to drink water, and became lethargic. My friend rushed her to the emergency vet, where they ran a series of tests to figure out what was wrong. The bill ended up being much higher than we expected, and my friend is feeling the weight of these unexpected expenses.
