I adopted Sugar, a blind 2-year-old cat, on August 10th, 2024. Sugar immediately took to living with me and my roommates, cuddling up to us, climbing on our laps, and running behind us as we walk around the house. Despite her blindness, she is the most curious and brave cat—from swinging like a monkey to climb down from the cat tree to running towards every interesting sound she hears—Sugar truly is a one-of-a-kind cat.
On June 25th, my cat, Sugar, woke up extremely lethargic and sick after not eating dinner the night before. After deciding to take her to the vet, her symptoms only worsened. After the first vet ran some tests, they sent us home after about 4 hours and said everything was fine, but upon arriving home, Sugar could barely stand, was yelping in pain, and was panting nonstop.
At this point, I decided to take her to the emergency animal hospital—which was lucky because they likely saved her life. When we arrived there, she could barely breathe; they immediately started treating her. After putting her on oxygen and IVs, running a myriad of tests, and giving her supportive care overnight, Sugar is currently feeling much better—but they still do not know what is/was wrong with her. They discovered she had an enlarged heart during an x-ray but are unsure if this was the root cause of it all.
The vet recommends us to see a cardiologist and neurologist both, but this endeavor has already tallied over $7,000 to keep Sugar alive. Any support is appreciated to recoup funds spent on her vet bills, as well as to help pay for the diagnostics she needs to live a long and happy life that a 2-year-old cat deserves. Thank you.
