Hi, my name is Sharon Scranton. This is my mom, Sue Wheeler. Last year in May, she was diagnosed with stage four cancer. Since then, she has gone through 30 treatments of chemo and radiation and various chemo meds/treatments. At the end of May this year, she was hospitalized for a week due to a blood clot near the mass. This is when the doctor said she had a couple months left to live. She is currently home in a hospital bed needing 24/7 care.
My twin sister, Karen, and I have taken on the responsibility of caring for our mother. But with both of us having full-time jobs and being single mothers, we are struggling to be there 24/7. We have had other family and friends fill in when we can’t be there. My sister, Karen has tried every avenue possible to provide around-the-clock services through my mom’s Medicare. But there are no agencies that are able to provide these services to Medicare recipients in this area. Unfortunately, it is getting to the point that we can’t cover 24 hours a day and cannot afford to pay for services to get the care she needs. My older sister, Carolin, is going through radiation herself for her cancer that was diagnosed in October.
Any monies left over after her passing will go toward her funeral expenses.
We could really use your help to get the around-the-clock care that my mother needs to be comfortable at home where she will be at peace.
