Help Sue After Losing Beloved Home in Eaton Fire
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Rhonda and I'm Sue and Jamie's friend, I'm inviting the community of friends and loved ones to help Sue at this time of need. Sue is currently staying with friends, while two of dogs are safely in a VCA hospital kennel. She will need money for mortgage payments, while she figures out insurance and her next steps.
Here's Sue's message:
'I’m Sue and I lost my house and all my belongings in the Eaton Fire.
I had to evacuate in the middle of the night with three dogs. I have no family here, and friends/coworkers have given me the support to go on. Chatsworth VCA Hospital has been able to board two of my dogs.
I bought this 1909 house with the love of my life, Jamie, who was a doctor and opened a free clinic in Pomona, CA. This house was one of the first houses in Altadena. Everyone that visited, loved the house, and we loved entertaining.
This house was our oasis from work stress, and our dream was to renovate it. But we didn’t get to renovate it together, as Jamie died of cancer four years after we bought the house. I have worked on renovating it over the past 13 years, and it was 80% renovated, including a rebuilt wraparound porch and solar panels. This house was my last connection with the love of my life. Now that it’s gone, I feel the loss more than ever.
I am at work today as a supervising psychologist at the LA County Dept of Public Health. It’s important that I recognize there are many who have not had the grace I have had, and I want to continue to provide my services to the people of LA County who need mental health support. I also recognize that if I don’t take care of myself, I will not be a blessing to others. So I am humbled by this experience and will accept help from others in order to be well and a blessing to others. I thank you for your support from the bottom of my heart. Thank you and God bless!"
