Hello. My name is Kathleen and I'm fundraising for my sister, Sue. On Tuesday morning (May 14), my sister awoke to find that her husband (Louie) had passed in his sleep. They had been together 42 years. Louie meant the world to his family and friends. He was a genuinely loving, caring man and a terrific husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Brother-in-Law, Uncle, and friend. My heart is breaking as I write this. The world doesn't feel whole.

For those who don't know Louie, this is the kind of guy he was: In December 2022, my sister nearly died from carbon dioxide poisoning. He knew something was wrong when she began speaking nonsense. He took her to the ER, and she was admitted to the hospital. She was in bad shape. My sister's physician asked Louie to call family, because she was not going to make it. My brother and I got to her quickly despite the fact we live in different parts of the U.S. To the physician's surprise, my sister lived. (Divine intervention?) We began calling my brother-in-law "Saint Louie," because it fit. That's the kind of guy he was.

Louie's memorial service will be Tuesday, May 28th. The expense is, well, shocking. He had life insurance through my sister's employer until December 2022, when Sue had no choice but to retire due to her health. I cannot put into words how much we would appreciate any amount to help pay for Louie's funeral. I'm sure many of you have gone through this and know that the worst time this huge expense can happen is when you're grieving. It diminishes the grieving process with monetary distractions, adding to the pain. Just to rent a coffin for use before cremation is $1,000. And that's just the beginning.
