Who we are

UiS Aerospace is a student-driven organization at the University of Stavanger (UiS) in Norway with over 100 passionate members. Our mission is to inspire the next generation by taking on one of the most ambitious engineering challenges possible: reaching space with a student-built rocket.

Our Vision

We believe that space-exploration is a key to a sustainable future here on earth and dream of a world where space technology and research is used for the betterment of life on earth. By uniting students across countries, across Norway, and engineering disciplines and subjects, we are building a better future by providing shared experiences to a diverse group of people.

Our History

Since 2022 we have launched four student rockets from our own launch facilities in the south of Norway. In June 2025, we launched Phoenix 1 – Norway’s largest student-built liquid-fueled rocket, powered by our own 3D-printed metal engine. The launch reached 2.7 km altitude and provided us with crucial data for our next rocket. All our years of rocket development has led up to this point.

Phoenix 2 - the first European student-rocket to Space

Our next step is Phoenix 2, which will attempt to become the first student-built rocket in Europe to reach space (100 km) in 2026. To make Phoenix 2 a reality, we need to secure a dedicated launch site. This is one of the largest financial hurdles for our student team, and we can’t do it without support.

UiS Aerospace's Rideshare Program

Your contribution will not only help us reach space – it will inspire hundreds of students, and through our Rideshare Program, even high school students who get to design and fly their own experiments on our rockets. We will offer payload opportunities for high schools, middle schools, and universities across Norway, giving students of all ages a chance to be part of a real space mission.

This program has already shown its power to reignite motivation in schools, giving young people an achievable and exciting way to apply their skills in practice. From the past two years of our Rideshare Program, teachers have described it as transformative for students who were previously losing interest in education.

We want to put YOU in Space!

We recently launched our most daring (and slightly ridiculous) plan yet to send hundreds of people to space. By shaving the head of a Norwegian lykketroll figurine, adding some superglue, and carefully attaching strands of hair from hundreds of donors, we’ll literally be sending you to space!

We call this ingenious scheme Operation Lykketroll to Space, codename: Operation Hairball. It’s a fun and quirky way to give people ownership of the mission – and bragging rights to say they’ve actually been to space (sort of).

How you can help us reach our goal

Every donation, big or small, brings us one step closer to space. By supporting UiS Aerospace, you’re investing directly in student innovation, education, and Norway’s future role in space exploration.

Cost Breakdown

All support will go directly towards launch operations for Phoenix 2. This includes costs for renting and preparing the launch site, transport and logistics, propellants and consumables, safety and recovery systems, as well as testing and operations on launch day. Every contribution helps us bring the rocket closer to space safely and successfully.
