Mit diesem Spendenkonto möchte ich eine inspirierende Umweltinitiative unterstützen, die von Studenten der Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile ins Leben gerufen wurde – UCéanos, eine NGO, die seit 2018 Strände und Wasserwege säubert, Recyclingstationen baut und Umweltbildungsprogramme durchführt. Bislang haben sie über 40 Tonnen (Plastik-)Müll gesammelt, von denen 3,3 Tonnen recycelt wurden.
In wenigen Wochen werde ich mich dieser Gruppe als Freiwillige anschließen, um bei der Organisation einer bevorstehenden Müllsammelaktion entlang der chilenischen Küste zu helfen. Diese Aktionen haben eine echte Wirkung, beschränken sich jedoch hauptsächlich auf die Region Santiago, da die Transportkosten für studentische Freiwillige etwa 80 % des Jahresbudgets verschlingen.

With this donation account, I would like to support an inspiring environmental initiative launched by students at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile – UCéanos, an NGO that has been cleaning beaches and waterways, building recycling stations, and running environmental education programs since 2018. So far, they have collected over 40 tons of (plastic) waste, of which 3,3 tons have been recycled.
In a few weeks, I will join this group as a volunteer to help organize an upcoming trash collection campaign along the Chilean coast. These efforts are having a real impact, but are mainly limited to the Santiago region, as transportation costs for student volunteers consume about 80% of the annual budget.
