BELOVED DOCTOR NOW A PATIENT:
HELP STUART RECOVER FROM A STROKE
My husband, Stuart Bursten, a beloved doctor, suffered a stroke in early March. He underwent emergency brain surgery to relieve bleeding. He was in hospital for two weeks and then transferred to a rehab unit. His prognosis is guarded but good, his neurologist anticipating 6-8 months for Stuart to fully recover. Therefore, he will not be able to work for at least the remainder of this year.
Many of you know the exceptional and caring physician that Stuart is.
For more than 45 years, he has helped hundreds of patients through critical health issues. But stress from challenging job situations as an “employee” physician at practices and hospitals owned or run by others appears to have brought on this life-changing crisis. Stuart was forced to change positions more than once in recent years due to contractual circumstances. This alone put a financial strain on us, adding to critical family medical issues, including my own fragile health, that have drained our finances as we tried to be there for everyone—-parents, siblings, children.
Today, both of us in our early 70s, we find ourselves in a most frightening place, with no income for the foreseeable future and unknown medical bills as Stuart fights to regain full abilities.
With Stuart’s stroke and no income for now, we must turn to this fundraising platform to sustain us going forward for our living and extraordinary medical expenses. With humility and eternal gratitude, I ask family, friends, patients, and former schoolmates to please help ensure a successful recovery for Stuart with your support.
Thank you for reading and caring. With love, Lesley Bursten
