Help stroke victim Andy & his young family.
Donation protected
Hi, we are Beth & Kathy - friends of Andy and his wife Mel.
On the 21st September 2023, Andy suffered a series of strokes, one major, resulting in Brain Injury. This of course has had a devastating impact on him and his young family, both physically, emotionally and now financially.
After a harrowing couple of weeks (when Andy nearly didn’t make it) his condition within the last 7 days has improved and is currently stable. Andy at some point will be moved from Eastbourne Hospital to a specialist neuro hospital, where he will face many months of assessments and rehabilitation after his cerebrovascular accident (the medical term for a stroke) for physical, emotional and cognitive therapy. His road to recovery will be a very long journey.
Andy is 51 and the main bread winner of the family, and is self employed. This means if he cant work, he doesn’t get paid. He also has no health insurance or savings (Hindsight is a wonderful thing)
Mel, his wife, is in a difficult financial situation, and knows he will probably never work in IT again. Mel (who is also self employed) is struggling to work due to visiting Andy, trying to manage the house, their young daughter, school runs and trying to work out how she is going to pay every bill (even the daily petrol costs and food) along with the realisation that when Andy does come home, she will become his full time carer (Decreasing her capacity to work further) The DWP will be assessing Andy in hospital soon, to hopefully action some form of benefits help in the interim.
Two thirds of people who survive a stroke find themselves living with a life changing disability. Its life changing for everyone. But when the main breadwinner is self employed, this adds extra pressure and stress.
We want to help ease this added pressure for Mel, who is trying desperately to hold it all together and stay strong for Andy and their young daughter Pearl.
We are asking you to help us raise £10,000 for day to day living costs, together with specialist recovery, rehabilitation and home adjustments that will have to be made, when Andy does eventually come home.
If you can spare a few pounds, we’d be very grateful, as unfortunately this could be any one of us in this situation, especially those who work Freelance and are Self Employed.
Thank you so very much for reading and please feel free to share.
