Help Street Children in Bukoba, Tanzania

Hi! My name is Hannah. I‘m currently volunteering at a non-governmental organisation named HEKIMA based in Bukoba, Tansania. HEKIMA promotes children rights and the well-being of the children and youth. We work under the guidance of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The many vision of the organisation is a community where children are free from poverty, injustice and exploitation. Our work is child-centered to inspire children to make the impossible possible by unlocking their full potential and advocating for their rights.

The projects I will present to you in the following focus on children living on the streets of Bukoba. There are two projects I’m fundraising for.

When a child is in the care of HEKIMA, our goal is to reunify the child with its parents or other family members, or searching for alternative care. The outcome depends individually on each childs background and relationship with its family. What is best for the child is always the main focus on how we implement our work. Often, families that are being reunified are not able to effort school supplies, food or for example health care. There are many more factors of poverty that affects these families. HEKIMA wants to support their difficult life situation by for example donating note books, book bags or clothes . In the occasion that the child does not go to school, we want to financially support the families for apprenticeships for the child. By supporting the families we’ve reunified, we are also making sure, that the child and its family have a stable and good future. I am asking for donations so HEKIMA has a chance to help the children and their family.

The other fundraiser is for our project HEKIMA CENTER. We are currently building a new center for the children and youth. There, the children will have a place to sleep, have access to education, food and water, facilities and engage in agriculture. Our goal is to primarily sustain from our own actions and therefore decrease expenses.

Right now we are still in the process of reaching our goal. But we are dependent on donations in order to finish the floor, install doors, windows and wiring. I am asking you to help us, so we can give the street children of Bukoba a chance in life.
