Hi, my name is Hanaa. I am a registered nurse in Houston, and as many of you know, I have family in Gaza. So, I'm opening this GoFundMe to help those in need in Gaza with necessities like food, water, shelter, and more. I know many of you are as heartbroken as I am about what is going on in Gaza, and you want to help out. I hope to collect funds and facilitate your assistance to the Gazan People.
Over the past few months, my family and I have sent money to our relatives in Gaza. We want your help to expand our distribution to those in need, including families who do not have shelter, and to send money to starving people in North Gaza.
Although I initially hesitated to open a GoFundMe, it has become difficult for us to rely solely on organizations in Gaza because they cannot meet the immense needs of the millions of people suffering every day. But I figured since I have family there that can help, I want to do more than support them; I want to help as many of those in need as possible. And since Ramadan (the holy month of fasting) is approaching, let's help families in Gaza at least have food to break their fasts. We must help, and no amount you give is "too little." Please also share our campaign with those you know using the GoFundMe URL or this QR Code. Here is more about the current situation and what we hope to accomplish.
Background on Current Crisis:
Ever since Oct. 7, Gaza has been enduring one of the most intense modern bombing campaigns in history, with nearly 40,000 civilians, over 75,00 injured have been injured, and over 3,000 are abducted(Gaza Genocide Casualties FEB. 23, 2024). That means that roughly 1 out of 19 people in Gaza has either been killed, wounded, or abducted, with their whereabouts unknown. Can you imagine if 17 million Americans were killed, injured, or abducted in 6 months? That is what has been happening to the people of Gaza for the past 6 months.
As of the date of this writing, the Israeli Army has forcefully displaced 2 million out of Gaza's 2.3 million inhabitants from their homes, either by destroying them or forcing people to evacuate them. Imagine if 298 million Americans had to flee their homes.
Of these 2 million, over 1.2 million live in tents or shelters in the southern city of Rafah. They desperately need shelter, food, medication, and other necessities.
Objectives of the GoFundMe.
We want to meet the needs of internally displaced people in the Gaza Strip. Depending on available funds, this donation drive will aim to assist those in need with purchasing food, medicine, shelter supplies, sanitary products, and other necessities.
This campaign aims to send a steady stream of donations in an organized manner to ensure maximum benefit for recipients, efficient distribution, and complete transparency.
How we can distribute aid:
1- Food Items: We will be utilizing several Rafah Vendors to ensure maximum utility for businesses as opposed to just buying from one person and to make sure that people can go to a vendor close to them to purchase their needs to avoid dangerous travel because of the bombing and absence of fuel for transportation.
2- Tents and Shelter: Your donations can provide cash directly to people to purchase items like wood, nails, nylon, and cloth to make tents. If the family is elderly or just women and children, a trusted volunteer will receive funds to build the tent.
3- Medication: We will work with pharmacists and clinics on the ground to help provide chronic illness medication to those who need it to survive.
