Help Stop CO2 Pipelines

Citizens Against the Heartland Greenway Pipeline (CAHGP) 

 

We are a group of concerned citizens legally opposing this proposed dangerous carbon dioxide pipeline extending across 1,300 miles of prime farmland in South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Illinois.

Navigator CO2 Ventures plans to build this hazardous waste pipeline, the longest and most complex CO2 pipeline anywhere in the world,  yet no one at Navigator has ever installed a CO2 pipeline before. If these pipelines rupture or leak (and they have), CO2 could asphyxiate humans or livestock within a mile or more.  If approved at the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) Navigator Ventures will use eminent domain to force landowners to house these pipelines on farmland and near housing causing untold damage. As of January 2023, only 6% of targeted Illinois landowners have agreed.

Further, after the Satartia CO2 pipeline rupture the Department of Transportation (DOT) determined that current CO2 pipeline safety regulations are inadequate and mandated the Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) to upgrade them (due October 2024). But Navigator is pushing for approval prior to the new safety regulations. We must prevent that!

 

We intervened at the ICC, hiring a lawyer and expert witnesses with success! On January 20, 2023 Navigator withdrew its application after calls for dismissal from the ICC, the Illinois Farm Bureau, Sangamon, McDonough, Christian, and Hancock Counties, CAHGP, and private intervenors. However, Navigator is refiling soon and our costs have increased to oppose yet a second ICC filing. 

 

Because Illinois is the proposed CO2 injection site, if we can stop it here, we shut it down across all 5 states. Please help us!
