First, let’s start with the “TRIGGER WARNING.” There is a photo in here of a woman’s breast. Obviously, it is not Stoney‘s. She did not want me to take a picture of her chest, which is completely understandable. However, this is a photo of what she looks like. A year ago, when they did the two biopsies, the holes never healed. To this day, they are still open wounds.
Her surgery is scheduled for January 5. It is going to be quite a lengthy surgery. She will have three surgical sites. The first one is where they actually remove the breast tissue. And since it is so close to her rib cage, they will have to take muscle from her backside, shoulder area, and place it in the front. Then they will have to shave a layer of skin off of her leg to cover the breast tissue and muscle. So she will have a surgical procedure done on the breast itself, her back muscle, and on her leg. The recovery is also going to be quite lengthy. They are telling her eight weeks is on the low side. She will obviously not be able to do anything. I will be caring for her around the clock, with the help of family. All of her medications will be changing. Even with the co-pays, they are quite expensive.
We are trying to raise money to help with a variety of different things. One of them is the co pays for medications. She is on seven medications at the moment. If you add in the oxygen, it’s eight. That number is going to change after surgery. The second are things for her comfort when she gets home from the hospital. Body pillows and an electric blanket to help keep her warm. She gets cold pretty easily already. She weighs 95 pounds. She will need a wedge pillow to prevent her from laying directly on her back and her surgical site. It will be a couple of days before she can shower, however, she will need a shower chair. For the first couple of days, we will get her body wipes and some dry shampoo. She will also need at least two nightgowns that button down the front.
Then we are going to get her several things that she can do in bed to keep her occupied. Puzzles, word search, books to read, coloring books, needlepoint…. Etc
After her surgery, she will have more than the usual number of follow-up appointments; co-pays add up quickly.
They have yet to tell her what part of the surgery and how much will be covered by her insurance. So any remaining money will be put towards that. She is on a fixed income and needs all the help that she can possibly get right now.
We have a couple people that have volunteered to bring some pre cooked meals. That will be very helpful. It’s going to be a challenge keeping up with everything.
I know some of you have helped in the past with her cancer journey and we are beyond grateful. We also do realize nothing is really affordable for anybody right now. If you are unable to donate, we are asking that you please share this post. Anything helps
