Help Stevie Wander Keep On Wandering

Stevie Wander has faced more challenges in his first two years than most cats ever will, but you would never know it from his sweet and curious demeanor. Rescued from a colony in the middle of a Maine winter, Stevie required the removal of both eyes due to severe infections. Originally known as PJ Specs Magee and adopted with plans to call him Echo, it didn't take long for him to earn the name Stevie Wander, inspired by the adorable way he sways his head back and forth while kneading and how he confidently wanders through the world despite every obstacle life has thrown his way.

Since his adoption in March 2026, Stevie has faced one medical obstacle after another. Following his enucleation, he needed an additional surgery to close an opening and battled recurring infections, eventually leading to a referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist. His specialist believes residual tissue from his eye surgeries may be contributing to the ongoing inflammation, and while plans were being made to address that issue, Stevie suddenly stopped acting like himself and lost his appetite.

Bloodwork revealed severe anemia and elevated bilirubin levels that had caused him to become jaundiced. He was rushed to Maine Veterinary Medical Center, where he required a blood transfusion, an abdominal tap to remove fluid, and a 72-hour hospitalization to stabilize. He was ultimately diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a life-threatening disease caused by a mutation of feline coronavirus. Thankfully, Stevie has responded well to treatment, and his bloodwork, appetite, and weight are all trending in the right direction.

However, he still has a long road ahead, with 11 more weeks of antiviral medication, frequent bloodwork, follow-up appointments, and continued ophthalmology care, including additional procedures to address the chronic inflammation. Stevie deserves the best chance at a long, happy life, and we are committed to giving it to him.

The unexpected costs of emergency hospitalization, specialty care, and ongoing treatment so soon after adoption have quickly become overwhelming. Any donation will help cover both his previous medical expenses and the continued care needed to help him reach remission from FIP and resolve the inflammation that has followed him since his eye surgeries.

Whether you're able to donate or simply share his story, every bit of support helps and means the world to this sweet boy and those who love him!
