Hi, my name is Alicia and I am Steven’s wife. On Sunday August 6th Steven wasn’t feeling well and I made him go to the emergency room in Hampton, Iowa. In the ER we learned that he had an abdominal aortic aneurysm rupturing. The family was told to say their goodbyes before he was taken to Mayo Clinic by life flight. On the way there the surgeon called to tell us he likely would not make it. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived and he was still in surgery. Despite being told surgery would take ten hours he was out before midnight. He came off the ventilator on the 8th I believe and is slowly progressing. We are being told to expect a lengthy recovery and likely a bypass in the future. His care is being transferred to Mayo Clinic which is a two plus hour trip one way. The funds would be used to cover care not covered by insurance which we honestly do not know what those will total, food and lodging for me to be with him at Mayo, then travel to and from therapy at Mayo once he is released. Steve beat the odds but has so far to go still. He is a loving father to five children who love him dearly. Thank you for taking time to hear our story.
