Brain cancer patient, Steven Thoms, respectfully asks for help covering the costs of treatments and therapies not covered by insurance. Steven travels over three hours round trip to countless specialists and oncologists. Sometimes multiple times a week.
Steven is a medically retired truck driver since he suffers from seizures brought on by scar tissue left behind from the removal of most of a stage three anapalastic astrocytoma tumor. Steven also has what is referred to as 'whisps' which are small, inoperable pockets of cancer throughout his brain.
Thanks to advances in neuro oncology that were literally developed and put in to practice in the last couple of years, patients with this disease are able to live longer with a better quality of life. One thing that is unique to cancers of the brain is that it is an invisible condition. One silver lining is that it cannot spread to the rest of the body.
Steven has been responding well to the treatments but it has been a real financial strain on Steven and his wife Susan who is unable to work as she provides round the clock care for Steven without any break or reprieve. This condition presents itself in many ways on the outside like traumatic brain injury with cognitive and mental health issues.
Steven is a family man with seven children and two grandchildren who hopes and prays for as much quality time can possibly have with them.
