Help Steven Myers Get a Life-Saving Liver Transplant
Donation protected
My name is Steven Myers and I am 54 years old in need of a liver transplant! My journey started just over a year ago when I started retaining fluid throughout my body. Doctors thought it was my heart. Come to find out, my liver is shot. Not because of drinking, but because of years of my diabetes being miss treated and miss diagnosed! Also years of being placed on heavy pain medication due to having multiple spinal fusion surgery!
Doctors are always first to think that I am an alcoholic, but that is not the case as I have seen how that can destroy people! My sister and I come from family on both sides that have struggled with addiction issues. We chose to stay away from alcohol because of that! Had I known that taking prescribed meds would cause this, I never would have taken them.
I have missed a lot of work in the past year, needing extensive testing in order to qualify for the new liver. I still have procedures to do in order to move up the list. One being, I have to have all of my remaining teeth pulled. The liver goes after your bones and muscles for protein, so I am loosing my teeth and will need dentures. I am not a candidate for implants because it’s too risky.
Recently, I have spent multiple days in the hospital because my gallbladder has failed and is infected! The doctors placed a stent to help it drain and function until transplant! This has caused more time off work and no income. I am trying to wait to go on disability as I like my job and hope to be able to go back once this is all done! Medical bills have piled up and are starting again as the new year brings new deductibles. With no money coming in, bills are becoming an issue. I don’t believe in just letting things go! I have always lived my life being the one to help others. I am always the first one to give to someone in need.
This is the most difficult thing I have ever encountered, and it’s hard for me to even consider going this route. But everyone is telling me “anything is worth a try!” So here I am, asking for a little help!
