Hello Dear Friends and Family,

I’m writing this on behalf of my son Steven, his wife Maddison, and their dog Winny. The three of them recently relocated from Pittsburgh, PA to Brooklyn, NY this June to begin the next chapter of their lives and professional careers. Unfortunately, just a few days ago, they were displaced by a devastating fire in their buildings. We are all so blessed and fortunate that neither they nor any of the other 9 families were seriously injured or worse.
Due to the severity of the fire, the fire department destroyed their apartment in the process of accessing the roof and adjacent apartments to fight and prevent the fire from spreading. In doing so, they removed all the windows, knocked out large sections of walls and ceiling, leaving behind piles of debris and significant smoke damage throughout. Their home has been deemed inhabitable by FDNY and they are struggling now to locate a new residence.
Again, we are so thankful that they are physically safe, and that no one from either building was seriously hurt. However, most of their belongings, including furniture, beds, couches, clothing, personal keepsakes, mementos, and other heirlooms were badly damaged or destroyed.

To make matters worse, the AAA renters insurance policy that was bundled with their auto policy was not updated when they updated their AAA policy, with confirmation received, to Brooklyn (they are planning to pursue legal assistance with that and if anyone has experience or connections, please let me know). That means they have no coverage to replace their things or assist with temporary housing or relocation efforts.

As a parent, I want nothing more than to see them land on their feet again, so I am reaching out to friends, family, and anyone kind enough to lend a hand. Any funds raised will be directly distributed to them and used in replacing essential furniture (beds, couch, etc.), cleaning or restoring salvageable items, and covering temporary living costs as well as relocation efforts. For those of you who have already reached out to them with assistance or support, we are so grateful.

Any contribution, no matter the size, will go directly to helping them recover from this difficult setback. If you aren’t in a position to donate, just sharing this page with others would still mean so much.
I plan to provide regular updates here of their progress.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and kindness.

Sincerely,

Steve Fischer Sr.
