TW: abuse
Hi, my name is Steven. With the government shutdown, my wife and I lost our jobs and are unable to keep up with bills. It’s been difficult, to say the least. But what makes our story different from the millions of other families going through the same thing?
When we first met in 2022, we were in very abusive relationships. My wife and I both endured unspeakable things: sexual abuse, verbal abuse, and constantly being made to feel like we were less than nothing. We stuck by each other’s sides and promised that things would get better as long as we had the other. Fast forward to the beginning of 2024. We ditched our toxic ex-partners and decided to move in together. As far as we were concerned, it was the best year of our lives. It was the first truly safe situation we had ever been in. Our whole lives up to that point had been nothing short of traumatizing, and after spending a year abuse-free, I vowed to do everything in my power to provide for my wife and our family. Fast forward again to the beginning of October. We took a couple of friends in because they had lost their place and didn’t have anywhere else to go. My wife and I realized that while our situation might not be the best with us not having jobs at this point, we still had an opportunity to help friends who were less fortunate. The problem is our funds ran out a lot quicker than anticipated because living nowadays is just so damn expensive. I find it very hard to ask for help, but if I don’t ask now, then when? I can’t break the vow I made to my wife; she is the sweetest, kindest soul and deserves nothing but happiness. I want to give that to her but I need your help.
