We are incredibly grateful for the generosity we’ve already received from family, friends, and even people we’ve never met. Your kindness during one of the hardest chapters of our lives has truly restored our faith in humanity. ❤️
Hello, I’m Daniel, and I’m raising funds for my husband, Steven, as we navigate a life-changing medical crisis. We moved to Philadelphia to build our life together, raise a family, and be closer to relatives in New England. After the pandemic disrupted our plans, we worked hard to rebuild. Steven found work helping elderly and disabled people with their gas payments, while I became a teacher for autistic children in Philadelphia.
Then Steven developed a wound on his foot that became seriously infected. After surgery to remove a toe, he developed a drug-resistant MRSA infection. For more than a year, we faced hospitalizations, surgeries, and repeated medical emergencies. Eventually, after his life was put in danger multiple times, Steven needed a below-the-knee amputation to save his life.
We are thankful that he survived, but recovery has brought a whole new set of challenges. We live in a very old third-floor walk-up in South Philadelphia, which has made life as a new amputee extremely difficult. We have already made significant accessibility modifications to our home, and we now need to move to a safer, more accessible home.
We are raising funds to help with:
- Moving and housing costs
- Accessibility modifications not covered by insurance
- Lost wages during Steven’s recovery
- Medical and recovery-related expenses
- Vehicle modifications for when Steven is able to drive again
- Additional mobility and prosthetic-related expenses
Our insurance is covering some essential equipment, including a custom wheelchair, walkers, and prosthetic-related care, and we are incredibly thankful for that. However, many of the costs involved in making our home, transportation, and daily lives accessible are not covered. Our family and friends have been amazing, but we do not come from money, and after more than a year of medical crises and lost income, these expenses are more than we can manage alone.
Our goal is to give Steven a safe place to recover, regain his independence, and begin rebuilding his life. If you can donate, we are deeply grateful. If you cannot, sharing our fundraiser can make an enormous difference.
Thank you,
Daniel and Steven
