Help Us Rebuild After a Year of Unimaginable Hardship
We’re Steven and Amanda, and this past year has been the most challenging of our lives. After losing our jobs, our home, and facing financial hardship, we also made the incredibly loving decision to place our twin daughters with an amazing adoptive family. We are now working hard to rebuild, but we’ve fallen behind on rent, utilities, and other essential bills. Any support to help us get back on our feet would mean the world to us.
Our Journey
Last year, I accepted what seemed like a dream job as a chef—full creative control, a great salary, and a furnished condo for Amanda and me. But things quickly unraveled. The business faced legal issues, leading to shutdowns. Amanda, who was pregnant with twin girls, and I worked tirelessly to rebuild. Despite our best efforts, we were both laid off the day after Christmas, just a week before reopening. We were devastated.
Over the next few months, we endured more setbacks. Amanda’s unemployment was delayed for nearly three months; my wallet with my ID and Social Security card was stolen, and we were forced to leave our home. With Amanda in the final stages of her pregnancy and our savings depleted, we faced the hardest decision of our lives: to lovingly place our twin daughters with an adoptive family. Thankfully, we found a wonderful couple who shared our values, and we knew we were making the best choice for our girls.
Our daughters were born prematurely on May 23rd. Despite the challenges, Amanda recovered bravely, and we were comforted by the close bond we’d formed with the adoptive family. We knew we had done something deeply loving for our daughters, and that gave us strength.
Why We Need Your Help
After Amanda’s recovery, we managed to move into a new home, but our financial situation continued to worsen. My driver’s license issues took months to resolve, preventing me from working, and Amanda’s job turned out to be another toxic environment, forcing her to resign. Finally, just two weeks ago, I started a new job that offers hope for the future, but we’ve fallen over $6,000 behind on rent, utilities, and other essentials.
We’re doing everything we can to get back on our feet, but we’ve exhausted every possible resource—family, outreach programs, and loans. Amanda grew up in the foster care system, so we don’t have family to turn to for support.
We know everyone has their own struggles, and we’re not the type to ask for help lightly. But we’re hoping that there are still kind-hearted people out there who can help us through this difficult time. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to stability.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your kindness and generosity.
