Help Steve Walk Again: Support His Rehab
Donation protected
My name is Steven Santana. I am making this fundraiser for my dad, Steve, who had a major stroke on April 21. We nearly lost him. On April 23 his brain swelled and they had to remove a portion of his skull to save his life. Over the past few months my father has been to several facilities to get rehab to work on using his left side again.
At the first acute rehab my dad had issues showing progress so they sent him to a skilled nursing facility where he excelled, but they sent him home in July. We tried getting him back into an acute rehab since then but Blue Cross Blue Shield has been fighting us on every attempt saying it’s “not medically necessary.”
We were able to get him into a new acute rehab, San Antonio Rehabilitation Hospital, but we are now paying out of pocket. But here he is doing very well and is on the path to walking again. My dad retired from civil service last December after 42 years. This isn’t how he wants to be spending his retirement but he has been confident at this new rehab hospital especially after he had his skull piece put back on.
The funds from this fundraiser will help us cover the weekly cost of rehab to get my dad back to being more independent and walking again.
