Help Steve Recover from Hurricane Ian

Hi family and friends!!!

I am helping an extended family member deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. His name is Steve Peterson, father of my best friend Mike and sister Steph, Grandfather to Brooks. Steve just purchased a mobile home in Fort Meyers, FL, in August, started a new job at the RSW airport and loved his new home and community!

Unfortunately, this move did not leave him with much savings. Hurricane Ian plowed through his community with winds and floods. Three feet of water, mud, and debris piled up into his home. Luckily his home is still standing, but we are unsure if it is structurally sound and what amount of fixes need to happen. So far, we know the floors and sub-floors, about 3 feet high of every wall, and part of the roof needs to be replaced. Luckily, most household items seem to be okay, minus some furniture.

Like the rest of the Floridians affected by Hurricane Ian, this is going to be a very slow and long process to rebuild. We are asking for help for Steve to have some funds for food, gas, and a place to stay while he rebuilds his home. He won’t be able to work unless he can find a place to stay and have gas to get there. Without work, he won’t have money to live and be able to rebuild his home. He has applied for FEMA assistance, but this will only cover part of the costs to repair and provide temporary rental assistance. Part of the money donated will help pay for plane tickets for Mike, Steph, and a couple of friends to get to Florida to help him rebuild.

On top of all this, his car has been damaged by driving through water and over debris just to get around. So far, he has had to spend a couple of thousand trying to get his car functioning. If it is not one thing, it is another that keeps piling up for him. But he is staying positive and strong. Let's give him some help and hope that things will get better!

Steve is not one to ask for help but is always the first to help others and put them before himself. He has no family nearby (Mike lives in California and Steph lives in Minnesota), so we can best help from afar by donating funds for the help he needs. This is what we are hoping you will be willing to help with! Every little bit helps, big or small.

I have added pictures of Steve with his kids and Grandson, so you can see how loving this man is to his family. Also added some before and after pics of just a bit of the aftermath of his place. Getting pictures while he has the limited ability right now is difficult.
