Hi,
We are Darren and Emma, owners of the Ranch Breakfast Bar And Grill in Resolven and are launching this fundraiser to help a great guy called Steve who supplies us with all our breads including our cavery rolls and specialist breads served from the Wild West Street Wagon and the Ranch main restaurant.
We have known Steve for many years with us being from Glynneath and him from Cwmgwrach but it wasnt until he has been supplying our buisness with his homemade breads that we learnt of the hardship him and his 6 daughters has suffered over the years, and this is what's brought us to setting up this fundraiser.
Here is his story
A Father's Love, Kneaded with Strength
In November 2014, Steve Jones's world changed forever. In the early hours of a Saturday morning, he received a phone call from his daughters that no one should ever have to answer. ‘Mammy is down’ they said, his wife had collapsed from a blood clot on her lung, she passed away holding their 15-month-old daughter, Esmé.
Steve was left to raise the girls on his own. His stepdaughters were initially taken to live with their father in Evesham, and despite Steve's desperate pleas to keep the family together, his appeals fell on deaf ears. But within a short time, the girls were returned—they wanted to be with their sisters. Steve welcomed them back with open arms and raised all the girls as his own.
Rising from the Ashes
Despite battling depression and anxiety, Steve never gave up. He poured all his love and determination into his daughters, and they have flourished. Today, some are attending university, others hold full-time jobs—all of them thriving thanks to the sacrifices of a father who always puts them first.
Steve learned the baker's trade from his own father at Eynon's Bakery in Glynneath, where he was born. In 2020, he channelled his grief and his craft into something beautiful: 5 Sisters Bakery—named because each of his girls has five sisters.
Baking with Heart
What started as a simple mission to deliver fresh bread to elderly and housebound customers has grown into something remarkable. Steve now produces a wide range of artisan bread, baguettes, focaccia, pizza dough, scones, and cookies. He attends farmers markets and supplies local restaurants—but he still makes sure to deliver to his original elderly customers, never forgetting where he started.
Steve is the kind of person who gives without asking for anything in return. When a fellow baker needed help learning the craft, Steve spent countless hours on the phone sharing his knowledge—teaching them how to prove, shape, and perfect their bread. He never asked for payment. He never asked for recognition. That's just who Steve is.
When Life Hits Hard—Again
About a year ago, Steve finally managed to save enough to buy a decent car. But tragedy struck again when another driver pulled out at a roundabout, crashing into him and pushing his car into a lamppost. His young daughter and her friend were in the back seat. Thankfully, they sustained only minor injuries.
The other driver initially admitted responsibility—but later retracted their statement, claiming Steve was at fault. With only third-party insurance, Steve received no payout. The car was a write-off.
He bought another cheap car, but it's too small for his bakery needs. He's recently picked up new customers, but travelling to deliver his bread in an inadequate vehicle is taking its toll. Once again, Steve is driving an old banger on its last legs.
Steve has also put two of his daughters through university—always putting their needs before his own.
How You Can Help
Steve desperately needs a reliable van to keep 5 Sisters Bakery going and to continue serving his community.
The cost: £3,000.
This isn't just about a vehicle. It's about helping a devoted father who has overcome unimaginable loss, a skilled baker who serves his community with pride, and a selfless man who has given everything for his six daughters.
Steve has spent eleven years putting everyone else first. Now it's our turn to help him.
Every donation, no matter how small, will help Steve keep doing what he does best: baking with love and raising his daughters with unwavering devotion.
