While in Canada for a work flight, my brother-in-law, Steve, suffered a massive heart attack and cardiac arrest near the summit of a mountain while skiing with his wife, Sara. He received 45 minutes of CPR before being revived and transported by helicopter to Calgary. For a long period, his condition was uncertain; however, against overwhelming odds, he survived and remarkably, with no neurological damage. The ski patrollers who saved him have shared that only 1% of the people they administer CPR to on the mountain survive. His survival is truly a miracle.
Steve is now in the ICU, and the road ahead is long. The focus is on helping his heart heal and getting him safely back home.
My sister is far from home, facing mounting medical, travel, and living expenses. Their children and close family have flown out to support them, but costs are rising rapidly, compounded by the loss of his pilot's license and insurance limitations due to being out of the country. Because they are not citizens of Canada, free public healthcare does not apply.
Any donation, no matter the amount, and every share is deeply appreciated and helps lift an immense burden from this family, allowing them to focus on Steve’s recovery.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any support you’re able to offer.
