Steve Michaelson is a good friend to many in the firearms community here in Omaha and the surrounding areas. If you know Steve, you know he’s the kind of guy who would give the shirt off his back to help someone else. Right now, he needs that same support.

Over the past several months, Steve has been fighting battle after battle inside hospital walls.

It started with cancer. Steve was diagnosed with cancer in his left breast and went through chemotherapy and surgery to fight it. Not long after, he began experiencing severe heart issues—shortness of breath, a dangerously erratic heartbeat, and heart valve failure. What was supposed to be a routine heart procedure turned into a nightmare when doctors discovered a heart aneurysm. The very next morning, Steve underwent emergency open-heart surgery and a double bypass.

As if that wasn’t enough, Steve recently suffered a serious seizure that put him back in the hospital. Doctors have now found a large blood clot in his heart, likely near the bypass, which caused significant damage. He is facing yet another major heart surgery on Monday. Doctors are also running brain scans to determine how much damage may have been caused by the clot traveling through his brain.

Steve hasn’t been able to work since June and was laid off from both of his jobs. To stay afloat, he made the heartbreaking decision to sell and trade over $300,000 worth of his belongings and firearms just to cover medical bills and try to keep up with his mortgage. Every dollar he had has gone toward surviving. He now has roughly $400 left in his account and has had to take out a second mortgage, which continues to grow as medical bills pile up.

The financial stress is crushing, and the fear of another major surgery weighs heavily on him. Despite all of this, Steve is still fighting with everything he has.
