Help Steve Boucher Deal With Cancer Costs
Donation protected
A couple of months ago, my friend Steve was diagnosed with a 6.5 cm mass on his kidney.
He was having stomach issues that were getting worse and worse, barely able to eat. He lost so much weight people started saying, "Hey, you started running?"
He did not start running. Doctors at Dana Farber believe this young, single dad has stage 2 or 3 kidney cancer. He has surgery April 20 for a radical nephrectomy. So, in regular people like me terms? They are taking out his kidney.
The good news? They don't think it's spread.
The bad news? Steve has racked up thousands of dollars in testing, already spending $16,000 of his own money for appointments and scans here in Bar Harbor and in Boston.
More bad news? He can't take on any more work (he's a real estate broker) for the next couple months as he prepares and recovers for surgery. That recovery means he won't even be able to pick up more than five pounds after his stay at the hospital. That's hard on him and it's hard on Kieran.
As Rotary president and on the Criterion board and so many other nonprofit adventures, Steve has done so much for our small community of Bar Harbor, Maine, raising money for our tiny hospital's cancer center included. If you can help him and Kieran out right now? It would be pretty amazing.
He's been a goofy prince charming at a pancake breakfast that has raised money to fit people to wheelchairs.
He's given up almost all his Fourth of July holidays for years and sold a ga-jillion lobster at our Rotary club's Seafood Festival and Pancake Breakfast, which raises thousands every year to help nonprofits.
He's been Jabba the Hutt to raise money for a nonprofit theater.
He's sold countless tickets to support a child care center.
And he's built a playground.
I would love if we can lessen Steve's anxiety about money so he can focus on recovery and getting his life back. Anything you can give would be so valued as he continues to rack up expenses driving back and forth to Boston from Bar Harbor. Thank you so much for your help.
