Help Steve and Sharon Through This Tough Time

Donation protected
Hello, I wanted to inform everyone with one hell of a fight Steve gained his Angel Wings on February 6th, 2025, surrounded by his family and friends. With that being said, this leaves Sharon with funeral expenses, all Steve's medical expenses ,while she is trying to grieve the love of her life/ best friend they had an amazing 42 years of marriage but together 47 years, to lose that I can't imagine her pain. If anyone is willing to help out with her expenses while navigating this hard time until she returns to work that would be greatly appreciated! We love you all who have donated and helped through this tough time.

Hello friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

I am writing today with a heavy heart to ask for your help in supporting Steve and Sharon as they are facing the toughest battle of their life. Steve was diagnosed with leukemia in 1993 and had a bone marrow transplant in 1993. He was then cancer-free for 21 years. Steve's world changed in 2016 when he was diagnosed with MDS (Myelodysplastic syndrome) bone marrow failure. After that transplant, Steve has fought many side effects, GVHD of his eyes, skin, and lungs, to list a few. In 2022, Steve was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Steve had his bladder removed, and doctors performed neobladder reconstruction and removed his prostate. Steve spent several months in the hospital. In 2024, Steve was diagnosed with liver and bone cancer. Steve's prognosis isn't good. This past year, he has been fighting with treatment that has been so hard on his body. Doctors stopped treatment in December. Steve recently went in for a last chance to give him an extra few months with radiation beads to his liver. As of now, that's on hold as Steve's condition is worsening. Steve is a fighter; he is not letting this cancer define him. Despite the physical and emotional toll, he has approached each day with unwavering courage and an unbreakable will to keep fighting. Sharon is an incredible wife and full-time caregiver to Steve. She is by his side through everything, and we cannot thank her enough. The heartache she goes through day after day watching the love of her life fight. She watches him fight with all his strength, yet the fear, the pain, and the uncertainty are ever-present.

However, this fight is not just against cancer; it's also a financial battle. The cost of treatment, medications, doctor visits, and the numerous expenses that come along with fighting cancer have quickly accumulated. On top of that, Sharon is taking off work to be by Steve's side every step of the way. I am asking for your support. The goal of this fundraiser is to give Sharon and Steve peace of mind while they are fighting this battle, to help cover medical bills and daily life expenses while Steve is fighting for his life. And with a broken heart, when the time comes, she will have to do what no one ever wants to do: plan a funeral for her best friend, husband, and lifelong partner.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with Steve and Sharon. No donation is too big or too small, and if you can't donate, we would greatly appreciate prayers!

With deepest gratitude,
Hillary Bernal
