Help Steve and Kathy Lee

Kathy and Steve Lee, long time members of the GPCA, the Pyr community, and Pyr rescue, are in need of our help.

It all started with a call from their doctor on Christmas Eve. Steve’s white count was 0.05. He needed to get to the ER immediately. On January 7th, his Oncologist delivered the diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He was hospitalized for weeks where he had his first round of chemotherapy. He came home for a brief time but had to return to the hospital because his platelets had bottomed out. During his next time at home, he became dizzy, falling down the garage stairs backward, hitting his head on the concrete floor. He suffered a severe concussion which has caused long-term problems. He has been in and out of rehabilitation facilities between hospital stays and receiving physical and occupational therapy. His last visit in rehab was only partially covered by insurance. The insurance company have now said they will not extend coverage and he is scheduled to go home on Thursday, May 5th. He is very weak, unable to walk and suffering some speech difficulties. Obviously, unable to work.

Their struggle is Real. Kathy has terrible rheumatoid arthritis and cannot physically assist him. Since the first of the year, she has been taking care of their five pyrs (3 are rescues), household duties, finances and going back and forth daily to visit with Steve.

We are hoping to raise money so Kathy can hire a caregiver to help with Steve’s care. Their insurance does not cover this.
