Hi, my name is Lenise, and I’m reaching out to ask for your support. I’ve had the incredible privilege of visiting Jamaica seven times this year, and each trip has deepened my love for the country — its people, its culture, and its breathtaking beauty. From the lush landscapes to the vibrant communities, Jamaica has truly captured my heart.
During my visits, I’ve had the honor of connecting with Sterling’s family, sharing meals, stories, and laughter, and witnessing the strength and resilience of the community firsthand. These experiences have taught me so much about love, family, and the importance of support networks — lessons I carry with me every day.
Seeing the challenges they face has inspired me to take action, which is why I’m starting this GoFundMe. My hope is to help rebuild what was lost, support the household, and make a tangible difference in their lives. Jamaica has already changed me, and I will be visiting this week to contribute positively to the community.
Sterling is someone very dear to me. I’ve seen his strength, kindness, and tireless work to support his family. Knowing how hard he’s fought to build everything makes this loss even more painful. I’m asking for help so he and his mother can start again.
On October 28th, 2025, Hurricane Melissa devastated the parish of Westmoreland, Jamaica, leaving families without shelter, food, and livelihoods. Among those affected is Sterling, a hardworking man from Westmoreland who has dedicated his life to both his job in Negril and his family’s farm back home.
Sterling’s mother, age 72, bravely stood through the storm alone while he was away working at a well-known resort—helping secure safety for tourists and guests during the hurricane. Sadly, when he returned home, he found his family house destroyed, the roof torn off, animals lost, and crops completely washed away.
Just before the storm, Sterling had spent his two-week break back home on the farm—cutting lumber, repairing fences, and securing livestock. Everything he worked so hard to rebuild was gone in one night. Currently, Sterling also faces uncertainty with his job, as the resort sustained major damage and may close temporarily. Despite these losses, he remains determined to start again and provide for his mother.
We are raising funds to help Sterling and his mother rebuild their home and livelihood, including:
- Purchasing cement and materials to rebuild the family home with stronger, storm-resistant walls and roofing
- Replacing lost animals (goats and cattle)
- Restoring farmland and crops that were destroyed
- Purchasing farming tools and a small tractor to restart agricultural work
- Replacing household necessities such as bedding, furniture, and essentials for his mother
Your contribution, no matter how small, will go directly toward helping this family stand back on their feet. Sterling is a man who works tirelessly and gives selflessly to others. Now, he and his mother need us to stand with them. Let’s help them rebuild not just their home, but their hope.
