My name is Haley and I started Santuario Vista Mar, a small rescue project located at my home near Pavones, Costa Rica.
I have been working with my friends at ZAPPA the last couple months to host my first totally FREE sterilization clinic for our low income neighbors in Pavones and the surrounding area. Just last weekend, thanks to an angel donor, ZAPPA and Dr. Andres Tello from Ciudad Neilly, we were able to sterilize 44 dogs and cats! We have another 50 dogs paid for at our next clinic, but it is FULL and there are SO many more dogs and cats that need our help!
The Association ZAPPA is a non-profit organization located and working in the rural areas of Southern Costa Rica, where most of the indigenous territories are located.
In these indigenous communities they do not have enough income to be able to provide veterinary care to their dogs and cats, and the only way to control the overpopulation is by sterilization. Due to the complicated access and distance to these communities, it is impossible for them to take their animals to veterinary clinics. Since our first free clinic was such a success, ZAPPA has asked me to help fundraise for one of Pavones' indigenous communities, Alta Mira, and another community called Plancitos, where they did a cencus months ago but have not been able to fund the project.
To finish the sterilization campaign in Pavones, our first priority for fundraising is for a full clinic day for our indigenous neighbors in Alta Mira. We have a list of 37 pets that was made in one day, and we are expecting to fill all the spaces and spay and neuter 50 animals in the beginning of April. This day will cost around $1,750.
The next goal is raising another $2,762 to fund a 2 day clinic at Plancitos de Conte Burica, where they have an estimated 100 animals and have a list of 77 ready to be sterilized.
It's not always obvious how you can help when you are a foreigner in another country ,or a local who maybe only has a few dollars to spare, but this is an opportunity for you, your friends, neighbors, family members, anyone you've ever met and told about Pavones, to give back in a big way. You can make a lasting difference in a town that leaves a lasting impression on everyone who visits.
Please take a moment to donate what you can, and most importantly SHARE this fundraiser. Every share brings views, and the more people who view, the more that donate!!! Thank you for supporting this amazing community and this cause!
