Help Stephen Cooper and His Family Rebuild After the Eaton Fires

The Eaton Canyon Fire has caused significant damage to our home and neighborhood in Altadena, CA. Writing this is very difficult for me, as asking for help is not something I usually do. However, given the challenges we are facing, I’ve decided to start this GoFundMe to assist my family as we navigate this difficult time.

I watched from my upstairs window as the flames spread across the mountains on the night of the Eaton Fires. Having lived here for 26 years and experienced many fires, I thought we would be fine, as we had been in the past. But this fire was different.

By 2:30 AM, the sky was filled with smoke, and embers were flying in all directions. I told my family we needed to evacuate immediately. Thankfully, we had already packed our cars with essentials. My wife grabbed important documents, while I focused on ensuring everyone stayed calm and we evacuated quickly.

When we stepped outside, the winds were intense, and the air was filled with ash and embers, making it hard to see or hear each other. As we pulled out of the driveway, we saw our neighbor’s house had already caught fire. We made our way down the hill, avoiding downed power lines and fallen trees, and eventually regrouped safely at Los Robles and Washington Boulevard.

Most importantly, we are all safe. However, the challenges ahead are overwhelming. Our home is still standing, but the garage, studio, and sheds are gone, and the house is currently unlivable. Utilities have been shut off, and it’s unclear when they will be restored. The neighborhood has been devastated.

As a fitness trainer, my source of income has been severely impacted. Many of my clients have also lost their homes, and with the air still thick with smoke, it’s uncertain when I can resume work.

As we begin the long road to recovery, we are seeking support for immediate expenses, including food, clothing, and essential supplies. The financial strain of rebuilding, combined with the loss of income, has created significant challenges for us. Your contributions, no matter how small, will help us meet these urgent needs and give us the time and resources we need to rebuild our lives. If you’re unable to donate, sharing our story would also mean a lot to us.
