On August 12, 2025, Chattanooga was struck by a historic flood that devastated families across the city. My dear friend Stephanie -- a U.S. Army disabled veteran and single mother of two daughters -- was one of those hardest hit.

In just a few hours, Stephanie lost her only car, her garage, and everything inside it -- including refrigerators, a freezer full of food, and countless personal items. To make matters even worse, the floodwaters were contaminated with sewage, destroying her entire HVAC ducting system and leaving her home unsafe to live in.

As if that wasn't enough, only two days before the flood, Stephanie's beloved dog, Corporal, suffered a stroke and continues to struggle with serious health difficulties.

Stephanie lives on a fixed income and is doing everything she can to provide for her family. Her younger daughter has had to temporarily live away from their home while Stephanie works to make the house safe and secure again. Despite these challenges, Stephanie remains the resilient, caring, and supportive person she has always been. She has given so much of herself to others, always standing proudly behind her daughter's softball career and community.
