On August 29, 2017, we were evacuated by ex-Army samaritans and giant 4x4 trucks through 4 feet of water in the street and water lapping at our doorstep. Many others were evacuated by boats as helicopters also flew above. Our community is not in any floodplain and was never supposed to flood.
As much as we had hoped and prayed enroute to the first shelter that we might be lucky enough to not have water enter our home, we have since found that we were not so lucky.
We have a long road ahead of us regarding demolition of everything from our sheetrock, to our cabinets throughout our home, and removal of our hardwood floors, followed by remediation of the studs to protect us from mold in the future. After all of this, our rebuild will begin.
We are sincerely touched by the amount of help that has been offered by friends and family and are forever grateful. Thank you all.
