Life-Saving Care for Husband/father of 4 (Dave Jennings)
We need your help to get alternative care for a permanently injured father of four (and to make the streets just a LITTLE bit safer at the same time).
The Backstory
In 2015, Dave Jennings sustained traumatic injuries and suffered a life-altering
brain injury.
The accident left him in a coma in ICU for 10 weeks and hospitalized for another month after.
At the time, 3 of his 4 children still lived at home and Dave had been the main provider of the family.
Though he was released from the hospital, he never fully recovered. Both mentally and physically, he was unable to work, and his wife Stephanie became his sole care-giver while raising her children.
The state and federal governments have helped her by providing funds so she could care for Dave and her boys without having to work outside the home; although, since his release from the hospital, he has had 6 surgeries, and countless visits to the ER.
The Current Problem
Since the area of his brain responsible for critical reasoning and impulse control were damaged, his actions have become increasingly concerning and dangerous. For instance, he has recently begun taking the car out when he can find where the keys are hidden (though he is NOT authorized to drive and does not have a license).
Twice, he has crashed the car causing extensive damage to the car and surrounding property, though, thankfully, there were no injuries….yet.
After 6 years, it has become apparent that Dave needs more care and help than any one person or family can provide.
He needs specific help that only professionals in a professional environment can provide.
How you can help
Stephanie has found an amazing facility in Colorado that specializes in traumatic brain injuries (TBI) that has space available AND is willing to work with the resources that the state will provide.
This will allow him to get the help that he needs in a safe environment, and provide care far beyond what one person could.
They are even willing to accept him during the Covid-19 pandemic.
There is just one problem: Getting him there.
Since the facility will be taking their income, Stephanie does not have the resources to get him there AND pay for the rental there that they will need to quarantine in, while still keeping her apartment here that she shares with her youngest son.
Plus, the drive will be made in winter on a Toyota with 90,000 miles that needs some minor repairs before she can safely make the trip.
Finally, she will need a month or so of household expenses, since she will not be able to look for work until she returns from placing him.
So, we are requesting that you help donate whatever you can comfortably afford to her situation so she can get Dave placed (AND make the streets just a little bit safer!) and reorient her life.
The money will be used for car repair, paying her expenses to get him there and get him quarantined, get her back, and cover a couple of months of her living expenses so she can get back on her feet after caring for him for the last 6 years while she finds a job.
If you know Stephanie at all, you know it is KILLING her to accept this, but we know many of you love her and know how hard she has worked to take care of him and raise her boys.
Again, ANY amount will be appreciated.
Please also share this so we can reach as many people as possible.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
