Help Stephanie Get the Double Lung Transplant She Needs to Live
Stephanie Basham, a 54-year-old woman from Junction City, Oregon, is fighting for her life. Thirteen years ago, she was diagnosed with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) — a rare, progressive condition that makes it increasingly difficult to breathe. Simple tasks like doing household chores, walking her dog, or spending time outdoors with family and friends have become exhausting and often impossible.
Now, after 14 years struggling with her condition her doctors say she has maybe 2years left to live without a double lung transplant.
Stephanie is currently in the process of being placed on the transplant list at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. Her journey involves several major steps and the costs are overwhelming-far beyond what her insurance covers:
• Initial evaluation (September): a 10-day stay in Seattle. Housing alone will cost at least $1,700, not including gas and meals.
• Monthly evaluations until transplant: each requires a 2-day trip to Seattle. The last trip cost Stephanie $500 out of pocket.
• Surgery: once a match is found, Stephanie will return to Seattle. Her caregivers will need housing for 2–6 weeks during her hospitalization. (~$2000 + meals)
• Recovery after discharge: she and her caregiver must reside in Seattle for at least 3 months for close monitoring, adding housing, meals, and transportation expenses. (~$13,000-15,000)
• Follow-up care: even after returning home, she will need monthly 1–2-day trips back to Seattle for check-ups. (~$500/monthly)
• Additional medical costs and unforeseen expenses
Altogether, we estimate Stephanie will need at least $15,000 to $20,000 just to be able to cover care for transplant related costs and 3 months of aftercare.
Stephanie is known for her honesty, sweetness, and kindness. She is humble, genuine, and unpretentious — the kind of person who quietly helps others without asking for anything in return. Now she needs our help.
Without this transplant, Stephanie will not survive. Every donation — no matter the size — will bring her closer to breathing freely again and living the life she loves: camping, enjoying nature, and spending time with her beloved dog, family, and friends.
Please donate if you can, and share Stephanie’s story to help us reach more people. Time is running out, but together, we can give her a chance at life.
