Help Stephanie and her children Rebuild after Fire and theft
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Stephanie. I am a single mother of 7 living in Providence, Rhode Island. Anyone that knows me knows that I am a fighter, a survivor, a hustler. I work hard for everything I have, and I strive to do better, to be better! But we all know that goes without saying that life isn’t always going to be easy, and for me, that is nothing but the truth. I was so excited to start this new year off. I told myself everything was starting to take a turn for the better, and I couldn’t have been happier and prouder of myself and my children, from where we came from and where we were.
With that being said, the first week entering 2025, my car was stolen out of my driveway. I went to warm the car up i to take the kids to school and go to work, came back out, and my car was gone! I have reported it, but to no avail, it has not been found. I am currently working out of state and have to get my children to 3 different schools every morning! Never in a thousand years did I think that this would happen or think that it could get any worse, but it did. Two days later, my house caught fire! It started in my kitchen underneath the stove because my landlord did not install the stove correctly, and it was on the floor too close, and it started a fire in the floor. Luckily, we all made it out safely, but we have lost a lot of our things in the fire that I cannot afford to replace at the moment!
If it couldn’t be any worse than that, while the kids were screaming and I’m trying to grab my dogs to go outside, up the stairs comes a constable with an eviction paper, a 20-day demand notice for other reasons other than non-payment. So, not because I didn’t pay my rent, but because my landlord does not like that I called code enforcement because there are too many things that need to be fixed, and my children need to live in a safe environment.
It is very hard for me to ask for help, but right now, I am feeling so defeated and weak. My hours have been cut at work to about 10-15 hours a week because of the time of year. I do not want to fail my children, and right now, they are looking at me, and I don’t even know what to tell them. I’m scared and do not know what our lives are going to look like in the next few days, weeks, or months. So, I am reaching out to ask for help, any type of help. Anything will be so grateful, even if it’s just a kind word. Thank you in advance
