Help 'Steer Clear' Keep Families Safe: A Plea from Students

As students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, we know that nothing matters more than keeping our loved ones safe. With this in mind, we created Steer Clear, a student-run company dedicated to making driving safer for all families. Our mission is simple: to save lives by providing the tools and resources drivers need in an emergency situation for peace of mind on every journey.

Unfortunately, our efforts have been thwarted due to the theft of the product we have developed to further our mission.

Through our Steer Clear Car Kit and Driver Safety Program, we’re empowering drivers to handle roadside emergencies and prevent casualties. Each kit includes car essentials, such as a window breaker and seatbelt cutter, an LED road flare, and a first aid kit—because when the unexpected happens, being prepared can mean everything.

As we built our business, we spoke with over 1,300 people, with the majority admitting they’d feel helpless and overwhelmed in a roadside emergency. That’s why we’re so passionate about what we do. We’re not just selling kits; we’re helping drivers and passengers alike feel secure, knowing they’re ready for the unexpected.

Additionally, we’ve partnered with the Dori Slosberg Foundation, which educates young drivers and advocates for traffic safety, by donating 10% of our proceeds to further this shared mission.

But now, we’re facing a challenge no student-run company should have to endure: Over $500 worth of our product inventory was stolen. These kits represented months of hard work and dedication, and the loss has left us with almost nothing to show for it.

We’re heartbroken, but we’re not giving up. We’ve worked tirelessly to recover what we’ve lost, but it’s clear we need help to rebuild and move forward.

We’re asking for your support—not just to rebuild our business, but to help us continue protecting families in our community. Your donation will enable us to restock our kits, return to selling at local farmers' markets and other events, and continue to pursue our dream of saving lives.
