Help Starr Fight Osteosarcoma
Starr was very unexpectedly diagnosed with osteosarcoma of her left hind ankle on May 12. She has been in great health up until this point with a full exam and blood panel to show for it. She is currently in great spirits and managing pain with medication until we could see the Oncologist and Surgeon.
June 1 she is getting chest and lung xrays as well as a biopsy to officially confirm osteosarcoma. It is looking as if by Tuesday, June 2 or sometime that week she will have her left leg amputated. Recovery will be a bit more hands on as she is a large (100lb!) girl with arthritis and she will need a new harness and maybe even a doggy stroller (yes, they make them that big haha!).
Two weeks after, she will begin chemotherapy with carboplatin treatments for 4-6 rounds. Each round costs about $400. After chemotherapy, she will begin the Yale Canine Cancer Vaccine Trial which is $1000. Costs add up quick but we want to do anything and everything in our power to preserve her quality of life, while extending it beyond the short 4ish months with just amputation. I have spoken with many others in our situation with a senior and/or large breed dog and many have lived 12 months+
She is also being treated with chinese herbs and a home cooked diet to help battle the cancer cells - with her size she needs large doses which quickly adds up.
Anything you can contribute will be deeply appreciated ❤ Thank you for your help taking care of our pretty lady :)
