Help Starr & Dante Heal After Medical Emergencies

In just a matter of days, two of our beloved rescue Golden Retrievers faced sudden, life-threatening medical emergencies. Thanks to quick action and dedicated veterinary care, both are now on the road to recovery — but their journeys are far from over.

Starr (24-126)

Starr is an 8 year old female and one of our cherished Long-term fosters. Recently, she ingested a sock, which led to a complete intestinal blockage — a life-threatening emergency.

She underwent urgent surgery to remove the obstruction and required an overnight hospital stay. Starr was discharged to her foster family, who are managing her recovery, but her road to full healing includes follow-up care.

Medical costs so far: over $5,600

Dante (26-027)

Dante is a 2 year old male who came into our care in April. A few days ago, he ingested Sago Palm, a plant that is extremely toxic to both dogs and cats.

He became critically ill and vomited over four times in a very short timeframe where evidence of the palm was produced. He was rushed to the vet, required IV and a multiple overnight hospital stay. Dante is also heartworm positive, which means he is undergoing additional treatment while still recovering from the poisoning.

Dante has been returned to his foster home. The Sago Palms were removed prior to his return; however, he will need multiple follow-up visits to check his liver levels to ensure the toxicity has not permanently damaged his system.
