Cecilia Rinn and the Starbelly Dancers (https://ceciliabellydance.com/) are collaborating with various musicians and professional performing artists to create a multimedia theatrical dance production in Boise and beyond with the support of generous donors like you.
In the upcoming 12th Annual Starbelly Big Bad Ass Belly Dance Show: House of Secrets (April 8th-9th 2022), dancers and artists will work together through the liminal space between trauma, secrets, and healing utilizing phenomenological research, intuitive movements, and soul-stirring music.
Trauma robs control of one’s body and mind, and these explorations ground and bring self-acceptance to breathe and work through the secrets we hold in our bodies. This production will approach trauma through dance and strive to heal through intuitive movements in order to break through the darkness and find the light of each body’s truth.
This campaign will directly fund our work with talented musicians, including Erik Messal in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sean Daly in Portland, Oregon, and Matthew Vorhies in Boise, Idaho.
This will also promote our collaboration and work with Myra Krien, an award-winning Director and Choreographer from Santa Fe, NM who is a well-traveled performer and owner of a thriving dance studio, Pomegranate Studios (https://pomegranatestudio.org/myra-krien/press-media). Cecilia Rinn and the Starbelly Dancers will be collaborating with Myra Krien and her Mosaic Dancers in order to create a multi-media (film and live dance) performance that will be performed in Kona (March 2022), Boise (April 2022), Santa Fe (June 2022), and Portland (Early Fall 2022)!
“Creating this artistic work, that is at the same time so deeply personal and universal, takes great courage. To share the journey through the shadows of my own fragmented history, towards healing and light is also a great honor, one I feel will touch the heart and souls of the audience and dancers alike. I know that it is important work- because I have to resist the urge to run away. Instead I will stay, face it, and dance.” - Cecilia Rinn Producer, Director, Principal Dancer | Boise, Idaho
“This show is deeply meaningful for me as an artist and as a human being. Not only will this show feature the culmination of my graduate school research, but also the energy that has formed within these tumultuous and important times. Through House of Secrets, I hope we can manifest a bit of catharsis…and also witness some bad-ass belly dance!” - Tori King, Creative Director, Guest Artist | Los Angeles, CA
“House of Secrets is the most ambitious project StarBelly has undertaken, and I am thrilled to be part of an artistic collaboration that focuses on working through trauma at a time when the world is so desperately in need of this kind of healing. ” -Chad Rinn, Producer, Dance Artist, Content Creator | Boise, Idaho
“I’ve been in survival mode for too long. I’m on a journey of healing and relearning who I am and that I AM more than enough. Through dance, I can be fearlessly vulnerable and unapologetic and authentic.” - Bayla Night, Featured Dancer, Creative Collaborator | Boise, Idaho
“As an introvert, it is extremely easy for me to get trapped in my head and for my body to feel stagnant as a result. Working on this show has helped me ‘unlock’ new parts of my body by helping me understand its truths buried beneath.” - Cassandra Joan, Featured Dancer, Creative Collaborator | Boise, Idaho
“We all have secrets, choosing to share these truths can solidify trust or dissolve it. House of Secrets is an invitation to explore the power we each have to control our narrative and process the untold.” - Alyssa Kimm, Guest Artist, Creative Collaborator | Portland, Oregon
