At 1:12 AM on February 17th, in the midst of snow, power outages, and the coldest weather seen in DFW in nearly 100 years the apartment complex that Star Franz lives in caught fire. It burned for over 24 hours completely destroying portions of the complex and severely damaging the structure and contents of every apartment in the complex, including Star's.
First, the good news. Star and her family (including her beloved dog, Leo) safely escaped the fire. All are fine, at least physically. Star does have insurance and they have provided temporary housing, so they do have a roof over their head.
However, it will be many months and lots of expense that may not be covered by insurance before she and her family are fully settled into a new place. So many friends and co-workers have asked how they help.
We are setting up this GoFundMe page for two reasons:
1. To make sure that with all the emotional stress an event like this brings, no stress is added to due to cash flow issues caused by slow insurance payments or items that are not fully covered.
2. Those of us that know Star know that she would be first in line to help any of us in the same situation. A donation, however large or small, is an outlet for us to do something for her when we know she would do the same for us.
Star has not asked for this. When I approached her with the idea she agreed, but was quick to say there is no pressure to donate. Your thoughts and prayers have helped greatly thus far. But we know there will likely be a time where some additional cash will help reduce the stress and anxiety of this ordeal.
If you feel like you are in a position where you can help financially, please consider making a donation.
Thank you!
