Help us fight hate through art and amplify these essential voices.
We're bringing Café Resistance to the stage this April at Theater for the New City (155 First Avenue, NY, NY) in honor of humanitarian and playwright Roberto Monticello. Roberto, known for documenting human hope and suffering worldwide, has faced violence but remains unwavering. As he says, "It’s my calling. Every day that passes, people suffer more."
We are looking for $42,000 for production expenses.

About Roberto Monticello
Roberto has dedicated his life to documenting human suffering and advocating for justice. He’s visited famine-stricken Ethiopia, recorded human rights abuses in Afghanistan, worked with the U.N. at Hotel Rwanda, tracked Nazi war criminals in South America, and investigated killings in Guatemala. He made multiple trips to Darfur, where he was wounded while working for the Red Cross. In 2020, Roberto became a certified paramedic to assist with COVID-19 patient transport. Recently, he traveled to Ukraine and Gaza for humanitarian aid, where he was injured by shrapnel in both legs and participated in the first hostage transfers in Gaza.
About Café Resistance
Café Resistance is a romantic thriller set in a Parisian café/brothel during the Nazi occupation. Based on true WWII stories, it tells the powerful tale of women of the night standing up to the Nazis.

Roberto's Goal for Café Resistance
To highlight the rise of antisemitism and Holocaust denial, Monticello wrote Café Resistance. Based on true stories and oral histories shared by friends and family in Paris, the play recounts how Jews survived the Nazi occupation during World War II and the role cabarets played in hiding resistance fighters and shielding Jews from the Germans.
